Co-extrusions
Co-extrusion is the process of extruding two different materials at the same time in order to form one final unique product. Instead of trying to find one material that meets all your criteria, this is a very good way to combine much needed properties. One section of your custom profile can be flexible, while the other area can be a harder material. You can find co-extrusions in products where a living hinge is required or perhaps you need a rigid trim piece, but require a flexible section for installation. This process can be done in both profile and in tube forms. For example, you can have a flexible hose with a thinner, tougher, more abrasion resistant outer surface. Co-extrusion can also be a cost savings by using a less expensive polymer in non-essential areas of a custom profile. Typically, you need materials that are similar, for example flexible PVC and rigid PVC, but Spiratex works with material suppliers to come up with special adhesive polymers which allow us to combine dissimilar material. Overcoating
Spiratex has decades of experience in the overcoating of many different types of media. Spiratex has coated wire, cable, rope, cord, fabric webbing, steel rod, and steel tubing, just to name a few, with a wide variety of thermoplastics. We can coat something with an even wall of thermoplastic surrounding the media or we can extrude a profile around it. Using various methods of extrusion we can provide a strong bond to whatever we coat for you or if you desire, we can provide a loose protective jacket. Spiratex also has the capability to overcoat product with co-extruded materials in order to obtain the ideal properties for your design. Spiratex has designed and manufactured its own unique rotating overcoat die. Now you can overcoat your strength member with a desired profile and rotate it at whatever pitch you desire for whatever length you desire.
