Thermoplastic Rubber (TPR)

Thermoplastic Rubber, commonly known as TPR, is a versatile material that combines the properties of rubber and thermoplastics. TPR is a blend of polymers and elastomers, providing it with the flexibility and resilience of rubber along with the processability of thermoplastics. TPR can be easily extruded to create a wide range of products with varying hardness and performance characteristics.

There are a few different types of thermoplastic rubbers available they can replace many different rubber components since they are easy to extrude and eliminate the vulcanization process. Different companies have taken different approaches to producing the product. Some are made up of a highly vulcanized rubber and plastic mixture where the plastic is typically a polypropylene and the vulcanized rubber component is evenly mixed throughout the melt. There are also melt-processable rubbers that can be extruded and have the same characteristics of actual rubber.

TPRs come in different durometers ranging from 55A to 50D. They have excellent resistance to fatigue, high tear strength, and good fuel and oil resistance. TPR is a great fit when looking to replace seals, tubing, hoses, spacers, bumpers and other rubber parts.

TPR finds applications in diverse industries due to its unique properties. It is commonly used in footwear, such as shoe soles and outsoles, where its excellent flexibility, slip resistance, and cushioning properties are highly valued. TPR is also utilized in the automotive industry for manufacturing seals, gaskets, and weatherstripping due to its durability and weather resistance. Additionally, TPR is employed in consumer goods, electronics, household appliances, and grips for hand tools.

TPR offers several advantages over other thermoplastic materials. It combines the elasticity and durability of rubber with the processability of thermoplastics. TPR is more cost-effective compared to natural or synthetic rubber, making it an attractive alternative for many applications. It provides excellent resistance to abrasion, tear, and chemicals, ensuring its longevity and performance. TPR also offers good flexibility over a wide temperature range and can be formulated to be recyclable and environmentally friendly.

TPR exhibits excellent performance characteristics. It has good tensile strength, elongation, and tear resistance, enabling it to withstand mechanical stress and deformation. TPR is resistant to various environmental factors such as UV radiation, moisture, and aging, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. It maintains its flexibility and softness even at low temperatures, ensuring its functionality in cold environments. TPR also provides good slip resistance, grip, and shock absorption properties.

TPR extrusion allows for customization based on specific requirements. Different grades of TPR can be extruded to achieve desired hardness, flexibility, and performance attributes. TPR profiles can be produced in different lengths, thicknesses, and shapes to meet specific design needs. TPR can also be customized in terms of colors, allowing for a wide range of aesthetic options.
