Acetal, or polyoxymethylene (POM), is a highly-crystalline material that is opaque white in its natural state. It is available as both a homopolymer and copolymer; with both providing excellent mechanical, chemical and electrical properties. POM is known for its friction and wear properties and is one of the strongest, stiffest plastics available. It provides superior creep and fatigue resistance. Unlike nylon, acetal does not absorb water in a humid environment. UV protection is needed in order to keep it from degrading with prolonged exposure. Common applications include: • Plumbing appliances where water exposure is high, including impellers, pumps, shower heads, nozzles, etc. • Industrial and electrical components including gears, cams, switches, buttons and handles
